Group A Preliminary Games

2 PM ET: Finland vs Slovakia

Finland will need to be careful not to look ahead to their matchup against Canada on Thursday before they get through Slovakia. Finland has not had a dominating performance on the scoreboard like some of their other rivals. Given how the Slovaks played against Canada, they can put up a fight against Finland. Of course, Slovakia also fell to Germany in overtime. These two teams are essentially playing for positioning as their quarterfinal appearances are assured. The game will be on TSN 1/4/5 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the US.

6 PM ET: Switzerland vs Germany

This may be the most important game of the entire round robin. This game will decide the final quarterfinalist in Pool A. Germany has more routes to the quarterfinal because of their overtime win against Slovakia. A loss in overtime would be enough for them to advance. Switzerland will need to win the game in regulation in order to advance. Luckily, the team that doesn’t advance doesn’t have to face relegation and will be back next year. The game will be on TSN 1/4 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the US.

Group B Preliminary Game

9:30 PM ET: Russia vs Sweden

If the Switzerland-Germany game is the most important, this game may very well be the most intriguing. Russia has a chance to win the group with a regulation win despite their loss to the Czech Republic. It wasn’t their best performance against Austria on Tuesday but no one would blame them for looking ahead. For Sweden, they have had two big wins to start their tournament but finish with their two biggest tests. A top-two spot in Pool B would likely see teams avoid Canada and Finland, so positioning is both very important and very much up in the air. The game will be on TSN 1/4 and RDS in Canada, NHL Network in the US.

All games shown on TSN will be streamed on TSN Live in Canada, but it requires a subscription.
