Team USA’s offence came alive on Saturday. The Czechs clamped down on Russia on Sunday. Today, those two styles clash.

Team USA drew Austria a night after falling to Russia to open the tournament, and the result was rather predictable: an 11-0 victory. Trevor Zegras had four points, Alex Turcotte and Matthew Boldy had three apiece, and the U.S. was getting into form for a run at gold.

The Czechs couldn’t muster much of anything against Sweden in their first game, but locked down their own zone in their second match to suffocate the same Russian squad that had beaten the U.S. earlier.

Russia was content to try to blast the puck through the wall set up in the slot, but the United States’ roster is full of playmakers who would try to go around that formation. The same tactics probably won’t be effective enough for another upset, so we’ll see what the Czechs can come up with as they try to survive the blows of another heavyweight.
