World Juniors 2017 Quarterfinals: Denmark vs. Russia, Slovakia vs. Sweden, Switzerland vs. United States previews, start times, & lines
It’s win-or-go-home as the WJC knockout round begins.
11:00 AM EST: Finland vs. Latvia
Relegation Round: Game 1
NOT TELEVISED
In the first game of the relegation round, Finland and their new coach, Jussi Ahokas, are looking to stave off a drop to the second tier against Latvia in the first of three games. While Finland struggled in the group stage, they put up a 51-shot effort against Switzerland in the final preliminary-round game.
While Finland is making history by being the first team to win gold one year and then play in the relegation round the next year, it will be very tough for Latvia to avoid relegation against what should be a much stronger club.

1:00 PM EST: Russia vs. Denmark
Quarterfinal 1
TSN1, TSN3, TSN4, TSN5
Russia has only won two games at the World Juniors this year and they look to win their third against the upstart Danes in the first of four quarterfinals. The Danish crew will rely on strong goaltending and opportunistic scoring as well as their flawless penalty kill.
On the other hand, Russia will look to impose their superior skill onto the Danish squad. Russia has struggled at times this tournament and of all the favourites in the quarterfinals, they look to be the most vulnerable after they only beat Slovakia by two goals. They should be able to dispatch the Danes, but anything can happen.

3:30 EST: Sweden vs. Slovakia
Quarterfinal 2
TSN1, TSN4
Sweden has beaten every team they have met with ease this tournament. The one team that gave them a moment of pause, Finland, was swiftly dispatched once Sweden imposed their will. While Slovakia could possibly beat Sweden, it would take a Martin Réway-sized miracle, and he is not coming through the door.
Instead, Slovakia will have to rely on goaltending and hope that they once again can find opportunistic scoring. It is fair to say that unlike the last time the World Juniors were in Canada, they are unlikely to medal.

5:30: USA vs. Switzerland
Quarterfinal 3
TSN3, TSN5
The United States of America should be the team to win this game. They are a quick, skilled group that has a goalie who makes the saves he needs to make. That said, their defence can be suspect sometimes and there are times when the forwards seem to be unable to finish.
On the other hand, Switzerland has found itself in this position before at different levels of international play and has pulled off the upset before. With good goaltending — Joren van Pottelberghe is coming off of a 49-save loss — they can score enough to cause the upset. The USA should win, but nothing is ever promised in a one-game playoff.
