World Junior Hockey Championship schedule: December 30, 2016

Group A Preliminary Game

5 PM ET: Denmark vs Switzerland

Up until a couple of days ago, the only two wins that Denmark has had at the top level of the World Junior Hockey Championships were against the Swiss. Now, with two straight wins under their belt, the Danes will look to clinch second spot in Group A.

A win would clinch second spot for Denmark, who won an overtime thriller against the Czech Republic on Thursday.

A Denmark win in regulation would be huge for Finland, as it would mean that the New Year’s Eve showdown between Finland and Switzerland is for the final spot in the quarterfinal.

Any Switzerland win would send Finland to the relegation round, one year after Finland won gold. Switzerland was tied with Sweden 2-2 in the third period, but allowed two goals to ultimately fall 4-2. The game will be on TSN 1/3 and RDS2 in Canada, and the NHL Network in the United States.

Group B Preliminary Game

7:30 PM ET: Latvia vs Slovakia

This game is essentially a one-game playoff for the final quarter final spot in Group B. Latvia has lost to Canada, the United States, and Russia in their first three games but can clinch a spot in the top division with a win over Slovakia. Latvia is in their first year back in the top division.

Slovakia rebounded from a tough opener against Canada with a much better effort the next day against the United States. The 2015 Bronze Medallists have been given a tough draw in this tournament. They play Russia tomorrow in their preliminary finale. The game will be on TSN 1/4 and RDS in Canada. The NHL Network will be showing the game in the US.

All games shown on TSN will be streamed on TSN Go in Canada, but it requires a subscription to TSN.
