Winter Olympics 2014: Hockey Schedule for February 16

Mens Tournament

Game 1: Austria vs Norway

A battle between two struggling teams kicks off the day of hockey at 3:00 AM EST as Norway meets Austria. Both sides are coming off lopsided defeats with Austria feeling the wrath of Canada in a 6-0 loss which included a Jeff Carter hat trick. Despite a decent showing in their opening game against the Canadians Norway dropped a 6-1 loss to a severely depleted Finland squad on Friday. With the preliminary round coming to a close both sides are looking to gain some momentum leading into the elimination rounds. In Canada the game will be broadcast on TSN2 as well as on a webcast by CBC. For the Americans the game will be on the USA network and webcasted on NBC Sports Networks website.

Game 2: Russia vs Slovakia

Both squads are reeling after shocking losses on Saturday with Slovakia being upset by Anze Kopitar and Slovenia and Russia feeling the sting of T.J. Oshie scoring four goals in a shootout loss to the Americans. The two sides will clash starting at 7:30 AM EST with the game on Sportsnet in Canada in addition to the CBC webcast and on USA network plus webcasted on NBC Sports Networks website.

Game 3: United States vs Slovenia

Also kicking off at 7:30 AM EST is the Americans who are riding high after the Oshie show took over on Saturday in a 3-2 shootout win over the Russians. Also coming off a massive win are the Slovenians who defeated the Slovaks 3-1 in the wee hours of Saturday morning. This game should be an easy win for the Americans and will also be the first time Ryan Miller starts in Sochi but have to be wary of taking the Slovenian team lightly. CBC will have the webcast of the game while the Americans can tune into NBCSN to catch the game

Game 4: Finland vs Canada

In the final game of the day Canada takes on Finland at 12:00 PM EST in what should be a hotly contested game. Finland has continued to suffer from the injury bug as Aleksander Barkov suffered a knee injury and is now out for the remainder of the Olympics. Without Barkov the Finns have lost both Mikko and Saku Koivu plus Valteri Filppula to injures leaving them hurting for a solid player at center. Canada however comes in fresh off a 6-0 drubbing of Austria where Robert Luongo posted his second Olympic shut out and Jeff Carter scored a hat trick. Finland still has enough talent to cause Canada trouble should the Canadians approach this game lightly and Tuukka Rask is more than capable of stealing games. Catch all the action on CBC in Canada(TV and Webcast) and on USA network in the US.

Womens Tournament

Game 1: Germany vs Finland

Kicking off the womens hockey action will be Germany and Finland at 3:00 AM EST with both sides looking for their second win of the Olympics. Germany is coming off a 4-0 win over Japan on Thursday and the Finns dropped a close game 4-2 against their biggest rival Sweden. CBC will be webcasting the game as always

Game 2: Russia vs Japan

Russia and Japan have met once in this tournament with the Russians coming away with a highly controversial 2-1 last Tuesday. The rematch kicks off at 12:00 PM EST and Japan will not only be seeking redemption but also their first win as they were shut out 4-0 by the Germans in their other game so far. Russia will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 shut out loss to Switzerland on Saturday. CBC will have the webcast for the 12 PM EST game.
