Sportsnet may be showing the game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars this evening on their national platform, but most fans will be interested in the outcome of the game between the Hurricanes and Blue Jackets. The two teams currently occupy the wild-card positions in the Eastern Conference, several points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final seed in the Metropolitan Division, yet only up a few points or wins on the Montreal Canadiens.

The Habs are having difficulty winning games themselves to earn their way into the post-season, so now some scoreboard watching becomes important as we hit the midpoint of the month of March. Montreal will be hoping the game is decided in regulation, with a win going to the Hurricanes, thereby leaving Columbus with the same number of points and games played as the Canadiens, the best result.

The Philadelphia Flyers are also in action this evening, taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs at the same time. They can move within three points of Montreal with a win, but a loss leaves them five points back, with no games in hand, which would make for a very difficult push in the final 11 games. The Habs should only be concerned about the teams above them at this point in the season.
