The St. John’s IceCaps announced that defenceman Victor Mete has signed an amateur tryout contract (ATO) and will be joining the team shortly.

Mete was eliminated last night when the London Knights lost its game seven overtime matchup against the Erie Otters, who moved on to the semi-finals of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.
Mete had signed an entry-level contract earlier in the year with the Montreal Canadiens, although as an 18-year old he is still eligible for two more seasons of junior hockey.

In 50 games with the Knights this season he scored 15 goals and added 29 assists, and in 14 playoff games he scored one goal and added six helpers.
Mete is known as an excellent skater, perhaps the best in the Canadiens prospect pool, but this will be his first brush with professional hockey, so the question of his usage in the AHL playoffs is certainly in question.
He was among the first cuts at Team Canada tryouts this past winter for the World Junior team, however he should be expected to make the team for the next edition of the Championship, assuming he his not playing professional hockey by then.
