Report: The Canadiens are close to signing Vadim Shipachyov

There are whispers that the Canadiens are on the verge of winning the race for the KHL standout.

Earlier today, Journal de Montreal reporter Yvon Pedneault reported he was told by an unnamed source that the negotiations between the Canadiens and Vadim Shipachyov are close to being a done deal. The rumours linking Montreal to the KHL standout have been around for some time, and now it appears things could be moving forwards.

"On m’a dit que les négociations au sujet du transfert de Shipachev sont sur le point d’être complétées," me dit cet informateur.

Translation: "'I'm told that the negotiations relating to the transfer of [Shipachyov] are nearly completed' the source told me."

Obviously everything has to be taken with a grain of salt at this point. It was not long ago that Elliotte Friedman suggested that pretty much every team was trying to sign him. He did acknowledge that the Canadiens were in on him first, but could not provide any sort of odds as to where he would land.

So we'll have to temper expectations for now, but this is definitely something to stay tuned for.
