"The product of Delta, B.C. surprised many by sticking with the Montreal Canadiens so long at training camp. Since his return, Gallagher scored a goal in each of his three games. Last week, he scored three times in two games with a plus-1 rating. Given that his junior coach, Don Hay, is also Canada's head coach, Gallagher will have every opportunity to earn a spot on this year's team."

This Day in Habs History:

1952: The Habs defeated Detroit 2-1 at the Montreal Forum, in the first hockey game televised on the CBC

1958: Montreal goalie Jacques Plante recorded his 36th career shutout in the Canadiens' 2-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings, at the Forum.

1961: After being traded to the New York Rangers, Habs legend Doug Harvey scored a goal in his debut as player-coach of the Rangers when they defeated the Boston Bruins 6-2 in the season opener at Boston Garden.On the same day, Jean Beliveau was named the new captain of the Canadiens.

1967: Beliveau scored his 400th career NHL goal, in a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Beliveau joined Gordie Howe and Maurice Richard as the only 400 goal scorers in NHL history.

1979: Montreal coach Bernie Geoffrion registered his 100th NHL win as the Canadiens won 3-1 over the Atlanta Flames, at the Forum, to extend their Opening Night Undefeated Streak to 17 years (13-0-4), an NHL record.

1980: Denis Savard, they guy the Habs didn't pick, scored his first NHL goal, in a 5-4 Chicago Blackhawks win at Montreal.
