A depth addition to the organization’s defence.

Columbus Blue Jackets v Minnesota Wild

The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Louie Belpedio to a one-year, two-way contract.

The contract will pay him $750,000 at the NHL level, with an AHL salary of $225,000 and a guarantee of $300,000.

Belpedio is 25 years old and 5’11”, 192 lbs. He shoots right-handed. He most recently was with the Minnesota Wild organization, where he was a third-round pick (80th overall) in 2014.

He has played four career NHL games, with two assists in those games. Most of his time has come in the AHL. In 23 games last season, he had three goals and five assists. In his career, he has 165 AHL games with 14 goals and 37 assists. He also represented the United States at the Under-18 and Under-20 levels.

He will provide the organization with depth. The organization has lost Gustav Olofsson, Cale Fleury, and Otto Leskinen from last year’s Rocket roster. Josh Brook had been the only AHL defenceman who shoots right-handed.
