The Montreal Canadiens continue shoring up their depth in the organization by signing forward Alex Belzile to a one-year, two-way contract extension.

The contract will see Belzile earn $750,000 in the NHL and $250,000 in the AHL, with a guaranteed salary of $300,000.

The 29-year-old dealt with injuries but managed to play 17 games in the AHL for the Laval Rocket this season, scoring four goals and adding 10 assists for 14 points. He also played his first two NHL regular season games, getting one assist.

Belzile is a perfect depth forward for the organization as he can play bottom six minutes in the NHL as well as top line minutes in the AHL. He is an important part of the leadership group in Laval and can play all aspects of the game.

In 256 career AHL games, he has 58 goals and 88 assists. He has been among the leading scorers in Laval since the AHL team moved to Quebec.
