The Montreal Canadiens have signed Xavier Ouellet to a one-year, two-way contract.
The Canadiens agree to terms on a one-year, two-way contract ($700k NHL & $275k – guaranteed salary $350k) with free agent defenseman Xavier Ouellet. #GoHabsGo

The 24-year-old has played his professional career in the Detroit Red Wings organization, with three years spent with the Grand Rapids Griffins finally resulting in a roster spot with the NHL team for 2016-17.
After 12 points in 66 games in that first full year, he only managed seven points, with no goals, in 2017-18. The final two years of his contract with the Wings were bought out at the end of the season.

Ouellet will get a look as an option on the NHL team, but the decision may be made to send him to the AHL club in Laval, given his two-way deal. He will still be a restricted free agent when this contract comes to an end after the 2018-19 season.
