The Hart Memorial Trophy, originally known as the Hart Trophy, the "oldest and most prestigious individual award in hockey", is awarded annually to the player judged most valuable to his team in the National Hockey League.
The award is usually voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association but they nearly always get it wrong, so it was left to our panel.
With three first place votes, the voters elected to award the trophy to none other than Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Crosby's obscene production this season was just too much to ignore for most voters. Even though he was eventually passed for the points race, he played 12 fewer games and still tied for 3rd in the league, with no one more than 4 points ahead of him.
The runner up for the trophy, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, could only tie Crosby's production in 12 more games.
