The Montreal Canadiens sign Byron Froese to a two-year contract

While major NHL deals are dominating the day, the Habs made a move to bolster their depth by inking free agent forward Byron Froese to a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old split time between Toronto and Tampa Bay last year, in both the NHL and AHL. In 54 AHL games he had 27 goals and 19 assists between Toronto and Syracuse, and in 22 playoff games for the Crunch he scored six goals and added seven assists.

At 575,000 dollars per year he’s extremely cheap, and can fill in on the Habs fourth line if needed, but it’s likely he’ll be a veteran leader for the Laval Rocket in their debut season. The first year of his deal is a two-way deal, and the second year is a one-way, similar to Charles Hudon’s new contract.
