This photo is in reference to the post from two days ago, concerning Patrick Roy’s father playing as a youth on former Canadiens player Leo Bourgeault’s backyard rink.
In that piece I made mention of four local outdoor rinks being built around the Montreal area by the team and the Canadiens Children’s Foundation. The photo above is of the first one, launched this December in the St. Michel borough.
Three more rinks are being built, with the goal in mind of providing youth in these neighbourhoods with a playing ground that can be used during the entire year.
Now I can’t help but think back to the ratty old outdoor rink made of makeshift plywood and 2×4’s that I learned the game on.
This one’s a beauty – I wish I was eight again!They should build 100 of these!
