Friday Habs Links – Subban’s Team Canada Status

Montreal Canadiens links:

– Stats guru Cam Charron took a look at P.K. Subban’s numbers and concluded that Subban should be a lock for team Canada. [via NHL Numbers]

– Like Charron most assume P.K. Subban, who is arguably the best defenseman in the league, would be a lock. However some disagree that he’s earned his spot on Team Canada. It wouldn’t be the first time Team Canada would make a glaring roster mistake. They, after all, left both Sidney Crosby and Steven Stamkos off Olympic rosters in the past. [via TSN]

– If you are feeling lucky, you can place bets on whether or not Subban will make team Canada. The odds currently favour Subban as an Olympian. [via the Gazette]

– Continuing with the Subban theme, Sean Gordon wrote about the reigning Norris winner and his upcoming contract negotiations. [via Globe & Mail]

– Subban refused to bring any attention to his contract situation. In typical Subban fashion he explained that the negotiations between himself and the Habs would remain confidential. [via NHL] (French)

– Former Habs legend Serge Savard threw some high praise Subban’s way, declaring him the best defenseman in the NHL. He also opined that Subban should be a lock for Team Canada in Sochi.

– Newly extended Alexei Emelin and tough guy Brandon Prust are both hoping to play on Saturday vs the Rangers. [via TSN]

– The possible return of Emelin and Prust means that for the first time this year coach Michel Therrien will have his full roster available, except for depth d-man Davis Drewiske. [via NHL ](French)

– Due to the impending Bell-Astral deal, the Canadiens financial records were released for the first time since 2006, and as expected they show that the Habs are a cash cow. [via LaPresse] (French)

Peter Budaj will get the start on Friday vs The Columbus Blue Jackets, Carey Price will get the start Saturday at home vs the New York Rangers.
