The St. John’s IceCaps have announced the signing of forward Guillaume Asselin to a two-way AHL/ECHL contract for the duration of the season.
Asselin was a leading scorer in U Sports (formerly CIS) for University de Québec a Trois-Rivières (UQTR) last season and won the 2016 Canadian University Player of the Year.
He was a last minute addition to this year’s rookie camp in September, replacing Martin Reway, where he left a positive impression. This season he dealt with injuries playing in only 15 games, but put up 21 points, continuing to display his offensive prowess.
Asselin was also part of the U Sports All-Star roster at Canada’s World Junior camp this December.
He will report to the Brampton Beast of the ECHL to start where he will join other Canadiens prospects Connor Crisp and Zachary Fucale.
