Spacek to return sooner than expected

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jaroslav Spacek underwent successful arthroscopic surgery in Florida Friday, to repair and clean up his worn down right knee.

Good news for Habs fans is that the recovery time has been reduced from an earlier prognosis of 4-6 weeks to a 3-5 week window. That should put Spacek back in the lineup before the end of the season.

The 37-year old made a trip to Birmingham, Alabama this past Monday, to visit renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews for an evaluation of his condition.

Dr. Andrews has also treated Josh Gorges and Andrei Markov, who made the trip with Spacek for followups. Both Gorges and Markov were spotted riding exercise bikes on Monday, while Spacek spoke to the media in Atlanta.
