So if Alex Auld starts, can Price play defence for Habs?

Carey Price was spotted out on the Bell Centre ice, after a handful of healthy scratches and injured players had a brief on-ice session.

But instead of sporting goalie equipment, Price was in a warm up suit and Habs toque, Borrowing a stick and gloves, from Benoit Pouliot and P.K. Subbanrespectively (per La Presse’s Marc-Antoine Godin), the Canadiens goalie took a few shots at the net. Mike Cammalleri was his off-ice coach, feeding him pucks from the bench.

Dave Stubbs of HabsInsideOut also took some snaps of Price, from seven stories up in the press ring, and added them to his practice report.

It’s not the first time that the Canadiens netmeinder has been spotted taking shots with a regular stick, as he does it on regular occasions . His shot was recorded once in the mid 90s (mph), and it looks like he has a pretty good one-timer.

Price also swapped positions with Josh Gorgesat the team’s fun practice in 2008. With the numerous injuries to Canadiens players as of plate, perhaps coach Jacques Martin has a secret weapon the next time he starts Alex Auld.

This of course begs the question as to whether a player in the NHL has played both goalie and a regular skater in their career. One of the Patrick brothers comes to mind (albeit for a period), and I seem to recall a member of the Ottawa Silver Seven doing likewise. I’ll have to do a bit more digging on that one.
