After another lengthy break, the Rocket resume the North Division Final, which has now become a best-of-three series with all three remaining games played at Place Bell. Pascal Vincent said after Game 2 that he thought his team got away from its usual style and was too undisciplined, so he’s probably been trying to drive home that message over the past four days.
The Rocket will be using the same lineup to the one that lost in Game 2, according to Anthony Marcotte. That lineup did manage to score three goals at even strength on Devon Levi, but a couple of goals against the penalty kill proved to be the difference. As Vincent has no doubt been preaching, the Rocket need to limit the amount of times Kale Clague and Jiri Kulich get to unleash their powerful shots from open space in power-play situations.

Western Conference Final Game 1: Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have been able to overcome some adversity in the playoffs, first coming back from a 0-2 series deficit versus the Kings in the opening round and then responding well to a late-second own-goal winner versus the Vegas Golden Knights to ensure that was the only loss of that series. The test has gotten tougher as the Western Conference Final begins, with the Dallas Stars next on the list.
Playing on the road was never a good thing for the Winnipeg Jets in these playoffs, as they lost all six games played including three in Dallas last series. For the Oilers, they might see the positives in starting on the road where they’ll just be aiming for one win before going back home.
The Oilers are proving to have solid offensive depth this spring; nine players have at least three goals through 11 games played. By comparison, the Stars have just five such offensive contributors. It’s a rare case of a clash featuring the Oilers in which their opponent is the one with the top-heavy forward group that can be targeted by the shutdown units, but that might be the case in this series with Mikko Rantanen and Roope Hintz the two players doing the vast majority of the damage.
