Both the Laval Rocket and Rochester Americans have enjoyed plenty of time off since their opening-round wins. All this rest since the end of the regular season is allowing injured players to heal, which means the two teams will be fresh and ready for the series.
The two clubs were battling for the top spot in the AHL for much of the season before Laval ran away with the title. It means the Rocket have home-ice advantage in this series, but, like the first one versus Cleveland, they will begin on the road. That wasn’t a bad thing versus the Monsters, and may not be for a young Rocket team versus the Americans either.
Laval faces a quality goaltender in this round, but that’s nothing new to a team that saw Jet Greaves rob them of multiple goals to start the playoffs. The Rocket shouldn’t get frustrated if Levi stands on his head, as they now know they can still overcome such an obstacle. The difference is that Rochester is a more capable offensive team, scoring 238 goals in the regular season to Cleveland’s 206, so just solving Levi a few times may not be enough.

From being an overtime goal away from a 3-0 series lead, the Toronto Maple Leafs now face a home game in front of a nervous audience having lost two games in a row to go back to square one.
The bad news for Toronto is that Florida seems to be improving as the series goes on while the Maple Leafs encounter more difficulty solving Sergei Bobrovsky. We’ll see if an extra day for the coaching staff to reassess the team’s tactics changes their fortunes in Game 5.
Pacific Division Final Game 5: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Edmonton Oilers
EDM leads 3-1
How to watch
Start time: 9:30 PM EDT / 6:30 PM PDT
In Canada: CBC, Sportsnet (English) TVA Sports (French)
In the U.S.: ESPN

Since Game 2 of the opening series with the Los Angeles Kings, the Edmonton Oilers have looked like a top contender for the Stanley Cup. They’ve won seven of the eight games played since, with the one loss coming on a last-second own goal in Game 3 that the Oilers have quickly put behind them. Tonight they have a shot at moving on to Round 3 having played just 11 games.
The Vegas Golden Knights aren’t going to make that easy, especially now that they have nothing to lose down 3-1 in the series. But the Oilers have shown they can both come from behind to win and hold leads through the third period, so it’s going to take everything the 2023 Stanley Cup-winners can muster to keep their season alive.
