Report: The Coyotes wanted McCarron and a first-round pick for Hanzal

In Elliotte Friedman’s latest 30 Thoughts he brought to light the asking price for Martin Hanzal by the Arizona Coyotes.

The Montreal Canadiens have long been rumoured to be pursuing the imposing forward. The asking price of Michael McCarron, a first-round pick, and a conditional pick appeared to be a bit too steep for Montreal Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin .

The Canadiens are currently in win-now mode, so it is of little surprise that McCarron is involved in the conversation. I speculated recently that McCarron could be an attractive trade piece for many teams who will be sellers, as they are looking to restock for the future.

The Canadiens have been closely tied to the Coyotes in trade rumours all season, with names such as Hanzal, Anthony Duclair, and Shane Doan being mentioned at various points.

So far this season Hanzal has scored 10 goals and added eight assists in 39 games.

Last season the two teams completed a bizarre three-way trade that sent former first-round pick Jared Tinordi and Stefan Fournier to the Coyotes for black sheep John Scott and Victor Bartley, who was just acquired from the Nashville Predators for Stefan Elliott.
