Brendan Gallagher to require surgery for broken jaw, will miss rest of series

UPDATE: Matt Niskanen has been suspended for one game

Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher will require surgery for his broken jaw and is out for the remainder of the series with the Philadelphia Flyers, first reported by Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports and confirmed by the team.

Lavoie first reported the broken jaw Wednesday night, and confirmed his report on Thursday. Since then, Pierre LeBrun reported that he received confirmation on the injury from Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.

This will mean that Gallagher is out for Game 6 on Friday night and likely more if the Canadiens extend their playoff run. He scored his first goal of the series in Wednesday’s Game 5.

Matt Niskanen had a hearing on Thursday, and was not penalized on the play. Details on NHL Player Safety’s decision will likely come later on Thursday night.
