Tuesday Habs Links: Rene Bourque sent down, Drayson Bowman called up

Montreal Canadiens Links

  • Rene Bourque cleared waivers on Monday and he was officially sent down the the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. Bourque will still earn his full salary of $3.33M through the end of the 2015-2016 season, but the Habs will benefit from slight cap relief. [EOTP]
  • Rene Bourque was obviously struggling this year and probably deserved to be put on waivers in a hockey sense, but it is always tough to lose a teammate in hockey. See how the team as a whole reacted to the news. [Canadiens]
  • Lars Eller is far from convinced that Rene Bourque is done as an NHL hockey player. Bourqe’s former linemate is sticking by him to the very end it seems. [La Presse] (French)
  • With the news that Rene Bourque has cleared waivers and will report to the Hamilton Bulldogs, that is good news for the Habs’ new Czech forward Jiri Sekac. Sekac was scratched for seven straight games seemingly in favor of Bourque, but the young and energetic 22-year old cemented his place in the lineup with a goal and an assist performance against the Wild on Saturday night in place of Bourque, who is scoreless this season through 15 games. • As we all know, Guy Lapointe was honored on Saturday night by getting his jersey retired by the Habs. Lapointe’s number 5 jersey was already retired for Bernie “Boom Boom” Geoffrion, who had worn it previously, but Lapointe absolutely deserved the rousing ceremony he got on Saturday night. [CBC]

Around the League

  • The New Jersey Devils finally got back their most effective forward from the start of the season last night as Michael Cammalleri returned to play against the Bruins. What does this all mean for the Devils? It sure couldn’t hurt! [Fansided]
  • The NHL’s Three Stars of the Week were announced on Monday. The Stars were headlined by Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano, followed by Ottawa Senators goalie Craig Anderson and St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko. [The Province]
  • Two teams that were not supposed to be good at all this year, are actually at the top of the NHL standings. Barry Melrose tells us why the Calgary Flames and the Nashville Predators are slicing through the competition in the West. [NHL]
  • Know your enemy, read up on the Winnipeg Jets before tonight’s game. The Jets are not the team that they have been for the last three years so far and they are certainly not related to the Atlanta Thrashers in their final tumultuous years. These Jets are 7-1-2 in their last ten games and are currently sitting in third place in the Central division, one point behind the St. Louis Blues. Say what? Yep! [Arctic Ice Hockey]
