The Montreal Canadiens placed Rafaël Harvey-Pinard on waivers on Saturday afternoon. Harvey-Pinard had been in the AHL on a three-game conditioning stint that was extended to the maximum of five, and a decision needed to make on what to do with him next.
In five games with Laval after missing the opening part of the season, he had one point and was a -4. He didn’t take control of the matches as the team would have hoped from a player looking to gear up for NHL games, and the decision was made to place him on waivers so he could spend more time in the minors. The team will find out tomorrow if he’s been left unclaimed and can stay in the AHL.
Montreal already has Michael Pezzetta as a permanent scratch, and Patrik Laine’s return is coming in the very near future. The organizational outlook has changed since Harvey-Pinard last played last season, and he will now need either a great run with Laval or some injuries to the NHL roster to get back with the Habs.
