Victoire beat Torrent to set another record, keep streak going

The Montreal Victoire took control in the second period and didn’t look back, beating the Seattle Torrent 4–1 on Tuesday night.

With the win, Montreal stays on top of the league and inches closer to locking up home-ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs. On the other side, Seattle is running out of time and is now on the verge of being the first team eliminated from postseason contention.

The win was Montreal’s 10th of the season at Place Bell, and they became the first PWHL team to win 10 games in a single venue. They are 10-0-1 in 11 games at their primary home venue. It extended their league-record point streak to 14, and they have earned 36 of a possible 42 points during that span.

But this game wasn’t just about the standings—it had a bit of everything, including some oddly satisfying milestone moments.

Abby Roque (who wears #11)  hit the 50-point mark for her career with an assist on the empty-netter with 11.1 seconds left. Laura Stacey (who wears #7) picked up her 60th point of her career on her seventh goal—on April 7, during her bobblehead game. You really can’t script that much better.

The game itself turned in the second period, when Montreal scored three times. Natalie Mlýnková got things going early thanks to a foot pass from Alexandra Labelle. Just over a minute later, the Victoire struck again on the power play — Lina Ljungblom set up Stacey on a two-on-one, and she tipped it home to double the lead.

Seattle managed to respond midway through the period, with Theresa Schafzahl finding a rebound in the crease after Ann-Renée Desbiens made the initial save.

Any momentum didn’t last long, though. Skylar Irving restored the two-goal lead a couple minutes later, one-timing a pass from Maggie Flaherty to make it 3–1. From there, Montreal stayed in control. Shiann Darkangelo added an empty-net goal late to seal it.

Desbiens finished with 24 saves and an assist, Lina Ljungblom  had a strong night as well, picking up two assists.

With four games left in the regular season, the Victoire are one point ahead of the Boston Fleet, who have a game in hand. Montreal and Boston have two games remaining with each other which could go a long way in deciding who gets to pick their opponent in the first round of the playoffs.
