Originally a late-afternoon start, puck drop for the game on Thanksgiving Monday in Toronto was moved up a couple of hours to avoid a conflict with Game 2 of MLB’s American League Championship Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners that will be played mere metres from the hockey game. The Jays game will be shown at Scotiabank Arena once the hockey is done.
This is a rematch of Saturday’s dramatic contest that was played in Detroit. The Maple Leafs took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, but Detroit’s poor start combined with a terrible night on home ice versus the Montreal Canadiens two days earlier inspired a furious comeback in the middle frame. The Red Wings led 3-2 after 40 minutes, and added another three goals in the third period to secure a 6-3 win.
Both teams have gotten off to a 1-1 start in an Atlantic Division that should be open for the taking this year. One of these clubs is going to drop down to sixth in the section with a loss today, and that should be motivation for both sides to play well.
St. Louis Blues @ Vancouver Canucks

The primetime slot is reserved for the Vancouver Canucks hosting the St. Louis Blues. Vancouver is hoping for a much quieter season in terms of off-ice noise than last year. They finished six points back of the final post-season spot in 2024-25, dropping from first in the division the previous year to fifth. So far, they’re off to a 1-1 start, having allowed just four goals through two games.
St. Louis was the story of the second half of last season in the Western Conference when the climbed all the way to a playoff spot. In the very early going, they sit at 1-1-0, but are also one of the bottom teams in terms of offence. Either that changes, or the Canucks continue their solid defensive start and add another win to their tally.
