Price picks up Third Star of the Week, as the Bruins await

The Montreal Canadiens Carey Price picked up the NHL’s Third Star of the Week on Monday. Price was 3-0 with a shutout, and stopped 113 of 116 shots he faced (.974 SvPct) last week. The Habs netminder finished behind the Calgary Flames Jarome Iginla and Andrej Sekera of the Buffalo Sabres.

Price will receive the Molson Cup February segment award on Tuesday, when the Canadiens meet the Boston Bruins. He has won the Molson Cup in three of the four months it has been awarded so far this season. Tomas Plekanec was the January segment winner

“It’s always nice to be recognized, but the biggest thing this week was the six points we picked up on the road,” said Price in his typical team before individual fashion Monday. “If we can keep playing the way we did over those last three games, we’re going to keep getting those points.”

Price also addressed Tuesday’s crucial four-point game against their division rivals, noting the team’s strategy will be the one they typically use, and not that seen in the two teams’ last meeting.

“We have to keep playing the same way we’ve been playing. We need the points, and they need the points,” he said. “For the most part we’re going to hurt guys on scoreboards and not so much physically. We just have to play our game and hopefully we can hurt them that way. It’s going to be some good fought hockey”
