Pouliot: Not Injured Last Night

In last night’s second half of the Montreal Canadiens’ sweep of back-to-back games, it was reported by Tony Marinaro of The Team 990 on Twitter that Benoit Pouliot left the Bell Centre on crutches after the game. Many questioned the report as Pouliot was on the ice in the final minute of play.

Those reports turned out to be erroneous, as Mike Boone of the Montreal Gazette’s Canadiens blog HabsInsideOut.com put it. Marinaro failed to confirm the source who gave the information was correct as it was revealed that the source saw Josh Gorges leaving on crutches, not Benoit Pouliot, but misidentified Gorges. How exactly that mistake could be made is surprising, considering Pouliot is 3 inches taller and they don’t really look alike.

Pouliot will be in the lineup against the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon, as the Canadiens start another set up back-to-back games, the second of three straight sets coming off the All Star break. The Canadiens play in 6 sets of back-to-back games between January 11th and February 10th. So far their record in those games is 5-1-2.
