A late Happy Birthday to Habs great Peter Mahovlich, who turned 65 today.
1953: Maurice Richard became the first player in NHL history to score 350 goals as the Canadiens won 4-1 over Detroit, at the Forum.
1964: Jean Beliveau was named the outstanding player in the annual NHL All Star game, when the All Stars beat the defending Stanley Cup Champion Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2.
1973: Bob Gainey played in his first NHL game, when the Canadiens beat the North Stars 5-2, in their 1973-74 season opener, in Minnesota. The victory extended the Canadiens' opening night undefeated streak to 11 straight games (8-0-3).
1987: Mats Naslund picked up five assists in the Canadiens' 6-3 win over the Sabres, at the Forum.
