Canadiens activate Paul Byron from IR, Dale Weise goes to Laval

The Montreal Canadiens activated Paul Byron from injured reserve, and sent Dale Weise to the Laval Rocket to make room.

Byron has been practicing with the Canadiens, swapping places with Artturi Lehkonen on the third line. Byron last played for Montreal against Edmonton on February 3. It remains to be seen who gets scratched for tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

So far this season Paul Byron has 19 points (10 goals and nine assists) in 39 games. The speedy winger excels on the penalty kill and will be a formidable weapon in any situation.

In order to make room, Weise will report to Laval. There will be no need for waivers as he was acquired in a trade from Philadelphia Flyers after having passed through waivers already. It means Weise did not need waivers until he spends 30 days on the NHL roster or plays in 10 NHL games.

Laval’s next game is against the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday. If he joins the lineup, Weise will give the team some veteran presence. It is possible that Weise may be recalled soon if the Canadiens make a corresponding roster move.
