Noah Juulsen’s Highlights of the Year: His first NHL goal

Noah Juulsen’s first pro goal came as a member of the Laval Rocket during his first pro season. Juulsen fired a puck from near centre ice and the opposing goaltender failed to save what should’ve been an easy save.

That goal was initially believed to be his second of the night, but it turned out his first goal ended up being credited to another teammate. So, Juulsen’s first pro hockey goal will be remembered as a quirky one.

As for Juulsen’s first NHL goal, a goal he might hold a little closer to his heart, it was much less fluky.

The Canadiens had a 4-3 lead on the New York Islanders back in March and with half a period to go, the bleu-blanc-rouge surely would have appreciated an insurance marker or two.

After Mike Reilly took a pass from Juulsen, the defenceman found forward Artturi Lehkonen who then fed the puck back to Juulsen. The rookie unleashed a shot through traffic and straight past the Islanders netminder, former Hab Jaroslav Halak, to give the Canadiens a 5-3 lead. The Habs went on to win the game 6-3.

Juulsen held his own in the limited time he spent with the Canadiens, tallying three points (1G, 2A) in 31 contests and doubling his points with the Rocket with one goal and five assists. He showed poise while moving the puck, threw his body around and got physical when the situation was called for.

All this while spending a chunk of time with Karl Alzner, who struggled with the Canadiens in his first year, as his defensive partner.
