Nikita Scherbak undergoes knee surgery, out six weeks

Montreal Canadiens forward Nikita Scherbak underwent knee surgery today and will be out six weeks.

The injury happened on October 26 against the Kings. He briefly came back, but then left the game again.

He played in two NHL games this season and looked good before getting hurt. He had a great start to the year in the AHL with the Laval Rocket, with one goal and eight assists in six games.

It is bad timing for the injury as it looked like Scherbak had turned a corner after a bad training camp and looked primed to hold a spot in the NHL.

Last year he had one goal in three NHL games.

The Canadiens did not announce another roster move, but have an empty spot on the roster right now. Torrey Mitchell took Scherbak’s spot next to Alex Galchenyuk and Michael McCarron.
