Tomas Plekanec will be a healthy scratch for tonight’s game

The market is heating up for Tomas Plekanec and there’s perhaps no better indication than the fact that Plekanec will be a healthy scratch for tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Plekanec has six goals and 18 assists in 60 games this season. Over his career he has played 981 games with the Canadiens, scoring 232 goals, adding 373 assists for 605 points. He is coming off a game with one goal and one assist on Thursday against the New York Rangers in what probably was his final game with the team.

There was speculation as to whether Plekanec would be traded, but with him being held out that indicates the team and general manager Marc Bergevin does intend to deal the veteran forward.

He has 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points in 87 career NHL playoff games.

The trade deadline is Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Eastern.
