The Florida Panthers beat the Buffalo Sabres, but it wasn’t enough to keep their playoff hopes alive as the Philadelphia Flyers clinched the final post-season spot.

The Boston Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators to give themselves a chance at claiming the Atlantic Division crown.

A late-season run by the Arizona Coyotes was halted by a shutout loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

The Montreal Canadiens finished the year with just one win in the last five games, but that win was enough to drop them from third to fourth in the lottery rankings.

The Detroit Red Wings got their game to overtime before being on the end of a John Tavares overtime goal; perhaps his last act in a New York Islanders sweater.

Vancouver took its game all the way to a shootout, but the Edmonton Oilers won the final game of the season, dropping from seventh to ninth in the process.

The Chicago Blackhawks secured seventh place with a loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

The Rangers did the Panthers no favours with a lopsided 5-0 loss to open the day’s proceedings.

The Carolina Hurricanes prevented the Tampa Bay Lightning from taking the Atlantic title with a 3-2 win.

Mark Jankowski scored four goals to send the Calgary Flames into the off-season with a 7-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Dallas Stars defeated the Los Angeles Kings with a 4-2 decision that they could have used more of in a disastorus month of March.

And the showdown between the Colorado Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues was won by the Avs, turning that team from a laughing stock with just 48 points last season to a 95-point playoff club.

Highlight of the night

Today’s schedule: Only the Panthers and Bruins are on Sunday’s docket. A win gives the Bruins top spot in the East, while the Panthers could move above the Blues in to claim a few more lottery tickets with a loss.
