Nathan Beaulieu traded to the Buffalo Sabres for a third-round pick

Ahead of the roster freeze before the expansion draft, the Montreal Canadiens have traded Nathan Beaulieu to the Buffalo Sabres for a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Beaulie was long rumoured to be available, and, needing to be protected in the upcoming draft, the decision was to trade him rather than let the Vegas Golden Knights take him for nothing.

In 225 NHL games, Beaulieu had 60 points, with 28 of them coming last season. He’ll join a Sabres team that was lacking truly talented blue-liners, and could very well be used on the top pairing next season.
