Nate Thompson traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for a fifth-round pick

The Montreal Canadiens have traded fourth-line centre Nate Thompson to the Philadelphia Flyers, getting a 2021 fifth-round pick in return.

Thompson was acquired ahead of last season’s trade deadline as Claude Julien tried to get a fourth line he could trust. Thompson proved to be a good solution for the head coach, playing 88 games for Montreal contributing five goals and 16 assists. He now goes to the Philadelphia Flyers where they are looking to make a playoff run.

After Marco Scandella and Ilya Kovalchuk, Thompson becomes the third true rental player dealt by Montreal ahead of the deadline. The two remaining pending unrestricted free agents on the NHL roster are Dale Weise and Christian Folin.

The Canadiens now have nine selections in the 2021 NHL Draft.
