After winning their second straight second regular season title, the Montreal Victoire have chosen to play the Minnesota Frost in their first round series.
The series will start on Saturday, May 2 at Place Bell. Game 2 will be on May 5.
For the first time, Montreal will face off against the Frost as they have selected to face the two-time defending Walter Cup champions in Round 1.
Minnesota finished third in the PWHL standings with a record of 13-3-5-9.
Montreal swept the season series against the Frost, going 2-2-0-0. Two of the games required overtime, but the last two meetings saw Montreal win by a combined score of 7-0.
This is the second time that the Frost have been chosen as the opponent for the top seed. In the league’s first season, they were chosen by the Toronto Sceptres. They lost the first two games of the series before winning three straight games to win the series. They beat Boston in five games to win the Walter Cup.
Last year, they defeated Toronto and Ottawa en route to back-to-back championships.
Teams with home-ice advantage in Round 1 of the PWHL playoffs have yet to win a series. Montreal and Boston will both try and end that streak.
This means that the Boston Fleet will play the Ottawa Charge in the other semi-final.
