Canadiens vs. Red Wings second period thread

The Habs looked to have opened the scoring early in the first period, as the puck was jammed in amid a pile of bodies in the blue paint and past Petr Mrazek, but the goal was called back because Tomas Plekanec had been assessed a cross-checking penalty before the whistle could be blown. Too bad for Pleks, as he would have passed Guy Carbonneau for sole position of 18th all-time in Habs points.

The Habs killed the penalty, allowing only one shot attempt.

The period was very evenly played, with the shots on net 5-4 in favour of Detroit at the ten-minute mark. The period ended with the Habs leading in shots 13-11, but trailing in the score 1-0 on a late goal from Riley Sheahan. The Habs had previously killed off another penalty, and had almost scored shorthanded to take the lead with Max Pacioretty missing on a breakaway.

The Habs look like they’re having more fun, with less than eight games of hockey left in their season, they might as well.

David Desharnais had 4:38 of ice-time in his first period back after missing 17 games.
