It was a tough week for the Canadiens, but a better stretch of games for a lot of individuals.
Goalies | Trend | Notes |
Carey Price | |
Price was absolutely fantastic this past week, despite only netting one win. He went 1-1-1 while sporting a 1.30 GAA and a .963 save percentage. He faced 107 shots in those three games, including countless odd-man rushes and breakaways. Price is in top end form heading towards the Olympic Games. |
Peter Budaj | Budaj only started one game this week, however it was a masterful performance versus the much hated Bruins. He only allowed one goal in 35 shots and continued his dominant ways versus the Habs’ biggest rivals.
Defensemen | ||
P.K. Subban | |
Subban escaped ‘The Sea of Minus’ in which he was stuck last week, however he’s still very much entrenched in the ‘Ocean of no Creativity’. He didn’t have a horrible sequence of games, but Montreal will need him to be better if they hope to clinch a playoff spot. |
Andrei Markov | |
Markov had a very good series of games in terms of offensive production, 3 points in 4 games. The schedule might be taking it’s toll on the General; he had to take a therapy day last week. His defensive coverage is still suspect, however this was a much better week for Andrei. |
Josh Gorges | |
Gorges blocked a ton of shots, as per usual, however he was caught out of position on a several occasions. To his defense he did have to play with Murray on a few shifts, due to Therrien’s constant line shuffling. |
Alexei Emelin | |
Emelin had his best game of the year versus the Bruins. He’s still relegated to his off-side, and he’ll never truly flourish there, but as it stands he’s did an ok job covering the right side. |
Raphael Diaz | Raphael Diaz has been a healthy scratch since January 18th, despite putting up the fourth best defensive numbers of any D. He was traded to the Canucks for Dale Weise.
Francis Bouillon | |
Bouillon has been a healthy scratch since January 24th. |
Douglas Murray | |
Murray had a decent game versus the Bruins, but struggled against Tampa Bay and Winnipeg. |
Davis Drewiske | |
Drewiske has been skating with the injured players, and seems to be poised to make a return to play in the upcoming weeks. |
Nathan Beaulieu | |
Beaulieu continues to impress during his call-up, providing much needed mobility and creativity on the blue line. He also adds an important offensive element to the second PP unit. |
Forwards | ||
Tomas Plekanec | |
Coming off his worst week of the year, Plekanec definitely had a better stretch of games in the last 4 games. 2 points in his last 3 games, including 11 shots earns him an upwards trend. |
Brian Gionta | |
Gionta had 3 points in the last 3 games, including 2 goals. As per usual his trend follows Plekanec, however this week Gionta was arguably the better player. |
Daniel Briere | |
Although he receives minimal ice time, Briere proved his worth by putting up 3 points in the last 3 games. He had a rough game versus Winnipeg, but he’s doing all he can with the little TOI he’s given. |
Lars Eller | |
Eller has not produced a single point in his last 14 games. If you look up cold in the dictionary and there’s a picture of Lars frowning. His defensive play was decent this week, but he needs to start putting up offensive numbers as soon as possible. |
Alex Galchenyuk | Galchenyuk is practicing, doing mostly skating drills, as it seems his wrist isn’t strong enough yet to be doing any puck work. He’s expected to return after the Olympics.
Brandon Prust | |
Prust did manage to score a goal versus Carolina, and had a 7 hit game versus the Jets, however he’s still struggling to contribute on a regular basis. |
David Desharnais | |
A solid game versus Boston gave way to two tough games versus the Jets and Lightning, respectively. As a #1 C Desharnais is on pace for 40 points this year, all the while benefitingfrom playing with Montreal’s best winger. |
Max Pacioretty | |
3 points in the last 4 games is enough to give Pacioretty a neutral trend this time around. The strong start to the week compensated for a mediocre weekend performance. |
Brendan Gallagher | |
Same story for Gallagher as Pacioretty, a strong start to the week followed by a tough time on the weekend. However Gallagher’s effort level in both weekend losses are enough to get him an upwards trend. |
Ryan White | Ryan White continues to rehab his shoulder, and is expected to miss at least another week or two.
Travis Moen | |
The Saskatchewan native put up 5 hits in a good performance versus the Bruins, however he struggled in the rest of the games last week. He’s currently pointless in his last 8 games. |
Michael Bournival | |
Bournival missed Saturday’s game versus the Lightning with the flu. He’s currently on a 9 game pointless streak and hasn’t managed to create many offensive chances in recent games. |
Rene Bourque | |
Bourque is on pace for 14 points this year, which includes a healthy dose of PP TOI. He’s pointless in the last three games, despite playing a little better lately. |
George Parros | |
Parros played in 3 out of the 4 games this week and wasn’t noticeably terrible (for his standards). |
Christian Thomas | |
The recent call-up was neither good, nor bad in the two games he participated in this weekend. He predictably saw very limited TOI. |
