Roster announced for Montreal Canadiens training camp
A total of 66 players will take part in the Habs’ camp.
With rookie camp now wrapped up, the real tryouts for the 2018-19 NHL season begin. The Montreal Canadiens will be evaluating 66 players in training camp, testing some of their free-agent signees versus some of their own young drafted prospects.
With injuries to Shea Weber, Andrew Shaw, and Paul Byron, there will be chances for some players to earn spots. Cale Fleury, who has yet to receive his entry-level contract, is one player who will be vying for an open spot on the right side of the defence. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, despite looking a bit inexperienced in the Rookie Showdown, is also being given a look among the professional players.
The roster will be slowly whittled down over the coming weeks as the Canadiens first get through pre-season training drills and then a handful of tune-up games. Some of the top players in the organization will compete in the Red & White game on Sunday before taking on other NHL clubs beginning on Monday night to get ready for the new NHL campaign.
