Montreal Canadiens trade Ilya Kovalchuk to the Washington Capitals for a third-round pick

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they’ve traded Ilya Kovalchuk to the Washington Capitals in exchange for the Capitals’ third-round draft pick in 2020.

Kovalchuk was acquired by Montreal on January 3, and had a great run with the Habs after a difficult period with the Los Angeles Kings. Signed to a contract valued at under $1 million, the winger produced 13 points in 22 games with the Canadiens, and had three game-winning goals.
