The Montreal Canadiens went into the opening game of the Prospect Showdown with a handful of defencemen to watch, and all had solid efforts in the game. The pairings even stayed together in overtime as it was apparent that they were the best players for Montreal in the game.
The Toronto Maple Leafs ended up winning in a shootout, but not before Lane Hutson wowed a sold-out Bell Centre crowd with his famous fakes, an assist, and a dribbler of a shootout goal, and Adam Engström netted a goal in regulation. Logan Mailloux looked solid on Hutson’s flank, while David Reinbacher seemed to be saving his energy for training camp and the pre-season, not doing anything too outlandish on his shifts.
Hutson’s display was so impressive you wonder if he will even be in the lineup today or if the coaching staff feels he has nothing to prove and lets him prepare for training camp. The forwards on the team still have some work to do to separate themselves from the pack, and we should expect a more dynamic game from the players up front this afternoon.
