Report: Montreal Canadiens to honour 1993 Stanley Cup champions before home opener

The Montreal Canadiens will honour the 1993 Stanley Cup champions before their home opener at the Bell Centre on October 11, according to The Athletic.

The information came in this tremendous piece about the incredible health battle of former Canadiens defenceman Lyle Odelein by Aaron Portzline. (If you have an Athletic subscription, read that piece. If you don’t have one, consider getting one.)

The Canadiens open their home season against the Los Angeles Kings, which is fitting as that is the team that they faced in the final. It is also 25 years since 1993 which makes it a notable anniversary.

Members of the 1993 team include current associate coach Kirk Muller, former assistant coach Jean-Jacques Daigneault, former head coach Guy Carbonneau, and others including Odelein who will be attending the celebration.

It will be interesting to see how the Canadiens do the ceremony as their home opening ceremonies are generally touching and bring out emotions.
