Cousins, 25, will have a cap hit of $1 million for the season. Cousins is 5’11, 180 lbs, and is a left-handed shot. He is listed as a centre and a winger.
He played 81 games for the Arizona Coyotes last season, scoring seven goals and adding 20 points for 27 points. He previously played for the Philadelphia Flyers. He was a Flyers third round pick in 2011.
Cousins, a Belleville native, likely joins the conversation for the Canadiens fourth line that already includes Jordan Weal, Nate Thompson, Matthew Peca, and others. The team did trade Andrew Shaw and Nicolas Deslauriers last week, which may have opened up space for somebody like Cousins.
The way his contract is formed likely means he’ll be given a chance to make the NHL roster.
He has 31 goals and 41 assists in 259 NHL games and 45 goals and 79 assists in 184 career AHL games.
