The team did not immediately disclose the cap hit. His current cap hit is $775,000 when in the NHL.
The 27-year old was due to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of this season. He initially signed a one-year entry-level contract as an undrafted free agent at the conclusion of his final NCAA season where he captained the UMass-Lowell team.
This season with the Rocket, he has scored three goals and added 20 assists, but his strength lies in his leadership and steady defensive play. He is also a reliable call-up for the Canadiens as a depth forward, playing seven games with the Habs this season.
In his career, he has two goals in 11 NHL games and 27 goals and 47 assists in 194 career AHL games.
