Lindgren was set to become a restricted free-agent at the end of this season, and could become an unrestricted free-agent the year after depending on the length of the contract. He is 24 years old and the contract is a one-way deal.
This locks him in with the Canadiens and makes him more attractive, either as the Canadiens backup, or in a trade.
Lindgren has spent most of the season with the Laval Rocket of the AHL, posting a 7-13-9 record with a 3.15 GAA and .893 save percentage. He played eight NHL games with Carey Price injured, posting a 3-4-1 record, 2.43 GAA and .924 save percentage.
He has been inconsistent in the AHL this year but a lot of that is due to the struggles of the team in front of him, especially with the penalty kill.
UPDATE: The contract terms have been released.
