Montreal Canadiens send Morgan Ellis back to St. John’s

The Montreal Canadiens have sent Morgan Ellis back to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps today after he played three games.

Ellis averaged only under nine minutes of ice time in his three games, against the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets.

With Ellis being sent down, the Canadiens only have six healthy defencemen meaning Victor Bartley may return to the lineup. It also likely means that Nathan Beaulieu is nearing a return to the lineup.

Ellis had a solid NHL debut against Anaheim but saw less ice time in the next two games as well as worse possession numbers. Ellis wasn’t really on the radar when the season started, but with injuries, trades and his solid AHL season, he played his way into the picture.

He was also named to the AHL All-Star Game as a replacement to Mark Barberio.
