Montreal Canadiens send down Karl Alzner, but he will travel with team on Thursday

The Montreal Canadiens announced that they have sent down Karl Alzner to the Laval Rocket for Wednesday night’s game against the Belleville Senators.

The team also made clear that Alzner will then be recalled to travel with the team to Columbus for Friday’s game against the Blue Jackets. The team then returns home on Saturday to host the Philadelphia Flyers.

Alzner was a healthy scratch the last three games after playing against the St. Louis Blues on January 10. It was his only game since being recalled on December 26. The Rocket have a busy schedule with back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday after Wednesday’s game, so they will have a chance to give a defenceman the day off to make room for Alzner.

Alzner has played nine games with the Canadiens this season, and has one assist. He has 10 games with the Rocket and has one goal and one assist in the AHL.

Update: As expected, following Wednesday night’s Laval Rocket game, the Canadiens recalled Alzner on Thursday morning and said he will travel with the team to Columbus.
