Ahead of Sunday’s game against the New York Rangers and one day after a tough loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Montreal Canadiens have recalled forward Owen Beck from the Laval Rocket.
It will be Beck’s second NHL recall. He was an emergency recall while in the Ontario Hockey League. In his first season with the Laval Rocket, he has nine goals and 16 assists (25 points) in 37 games. That puts him third in team scoring.
Beck’s versatility will likely provide more balance to the lineup, filling a role vacated by Emil Heineman’s absence and also giving the team an additional face-off option in all situations.
He is known most as a defensively responsible forward, but there is a lot of skill element to Beck’s game, and he may have the opportunity to carve a spot for himself. It will be Beck’s third game in three nights if he enters Sunday’s lineup after two games on Friday and Saturday in the AHL.
There is no reason to believe he wouldn’t be in the lineup as they could have delayed the recall otherwise.
